——————–

Dear Friends,

A year ago, my four-year routine came to a quick halt.  I graduated.  My bags were soon packed, and a four-day road trip landed me in the state of Texas.  With the noticeable temperature change between Vermont and Dallas also came a rather large transition.  New school, new job, new friends, new church, and new time zone.

And so began my time at Dallas Theological Seminary…

To catch you up to speed, I’m midway through a master’s program in Cross-Cultural Ministries.  It’s been amazing, challenging, and eye-opening.  I’ve come to realize the power of a story…especially the story of redemption through Jesus Christ.  Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”  As I follow and seek after God, I realize more and more how life-transforming it is for me and how big God’s plans are for the world.  I’m excited to be a part of sharing the gospel message to a broken world in need of hope. That takes many forms and is truly a great mission to be on.

Jump into the future…Nicaragua Mission Trip.

I will be heading on a missions trip to Rivas, Nicaragua for the week of July 21st-28th.  A friend from Chop Point Camp (Woolwich, ME) asked if I would be able to come down to Nicaragua to be the women’s leader for a group of high school students.  After much prayer and consideration, and a couple trip revisions, I decided to pursue the opportunity.  For the week, Campo Alegría will be our home.  We will spend the week doing construction projects to expand the camp as well as various service projects in the surrounding communities.

Background of Campo Alegría:  Campo Alegría was founded in 1999, after Chop Point staff traveled to Nicaragua for a mission trip. After seeing how children actually live in the town dump, the camp director became determined to bring hope to them. Donations were sought, land was purchased and building soon began. Campo has now become home to many missions teams from all over the U.S. and many churches from within the country of Nicaragua. Campo can be used as a base for children’s camps, vocational courses, local projects, and ESL training. For more info on this ministry: www.campoalegria.com

Ways to Get Involved: I would love your involvement in this trip.  My most important need is prayer. I whole-heartedly believe that your prayers are powerful and effective.  There are a bunch of things you can pray for: logistics with travel, safety, that I can be an encouragement to the high school girls, team unity, support raising, patience with Spanish, overall focus on service, and opportunities to share my testimony and the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.

I deeply appreciate your support through prayer.  If you would like to contribute with financial support that would certainly help.  The total cost of the trip is $850. This covers airfare, a place to stay, food, and funding for some of the construction projects.  Before I leave, I’ll be packing up an extra bag of clothing and various items for the kids who come into the camp and support will also be designated for that. My support is due by July 10th.  Support can be donated online at cdecapua.wordpress.com/nicaragua (through secured paypal) or snail mailed to me at 3909 Swiss Ave. Box #450, Dallas TX 75204.  For a tax deduction, you can send checks to my church: Reunion Church, P. O. Box 130778, Dallas TX 75313. Please make it out to Reunion Church and add “Chelsea DeCapua’s Nicaragua Trip” on the memo line.

From now until after the trip, I want to update you on how it all falls together and what happens while I’m there.  Please email me if you want to receive updates, and/or if you can support in the way of prayer and/or financial support.  My email is chelsea.decapua@gmail.com and you can check out more about the trip on my blog at cdecapua.wordpress.com/nicaragua.

Thanks for being a part of this.
