One big DTS perk…free Dallas Symphony tickets. Abby, Josh and I went to Brahm’s Concerto for Violin and Cello in A Minor last Thursday and it was awesome. Go if it comes your way. It’s good music on my ipod now.

Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope:
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.”
In one week I’ll be here…

…but it will probably look more like:

Matthew 11:28-30 is one portion of Scripture that means a lot to me. It was a verse that got me through much of the awesome, but demanding time spent involved in InterVarsity last year. I wouldn’t trade that time for the world but something about these verses gave me much encouragement:
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
These pasts couple of weeks have been an upward battle of let-downs. I guess you could say it’s the first time since moving here that I don’t really want to be here (one reason hoping on a cheap flight to rochester in two weeks was an easy decision). Yesterday, my pastor preached on Matthew 11 and it brought me back to these verses. Today, I opened up a random email in my mailbox I had forgotten about weeks ago and right in big bold letters were, again, these verses. Tears welled up in my eyes. Not because it reminded me of whatever has been going on in my life…but because it reminded me that I can always find rest in God in midst of the weariness of life.

Coming back from break has re-energized me and I’m ready to jump into the next semester. Something about having completed one semester at DTS gives me confidence that I can get through the next. Here’s what’s on my plate so you can get a taste of my typical week:

-Sarita and I are grading for an Intro to Theology class - which I’m psyched about because it will involve panera dates and re-learning things I forgot from last semester.
Spiritual Formation
Every week a group of girls and I cross the street and lead a women’s group at an elderly housing facility. Many of these women don’t necessarily appreciate the activities we do with them, but more that we simply care about them. During one of our meetings, one woman teared up and said, “you all are so sweet for coming here and volunteering your time. Most people just forget about us.” That was a good reminder to what Christ meant when he served the widows and orphans – those most forgotten by society.
Reunion Fun
I love the church that I go to because of the community it has. I’ve been going to a small group every other Tuesday night and I’m a part of a new Outreach Team that has a great amount of flexibility in what we are able to do with encouraging the church to be involved in the community. It’s been a lot of fun so far…the 4 of us have very different personalities but it is awesome to get together. There’s rumor of a mission trip to the Amazon that has sparked a little interest in my head…
Swing Dancing
I loooooove Wednesday nights because that means I get to go dancing. This is one of my outs in the non-Christian world and I love it. I connects me with so many crazy/strange/awesome people.
East-West
I’m still working at East-West Ministries doing web development and marketing. I’ve been able to work on some neat projects and the people here are passionately pursing what God wants for the ministry.
Social life…whaaat?
I’ve been blessed with some great friends and many other people I’d like to get and know. Sarita is a grrrrreat roommate. David’s family is awesome and it’s great to be able to escape to a house while still living in a dorm-like atmosphere. I’m also reading more for fun — which will hopefully continue even with classes. Right now I’m going through Harry Potter. (I know reading might not be considered social but imagine me at a coffee shop with lots of people and it will pass).
I need prayer for…
-opporunities to get out into the city
-confidence to say no to things
-figuring out how to pay for seminary without taking out more loans
-constant motivation to learns as much as I can from class
Hopefully the next post will come sooner than later….
One more final tonight and then I’m done done done with my first semester!
